How does color of foods determine it's taste?

Our taste buds play an important role in determining the four basic groups of taste, which are sweet, salty, sour, and bitter. But, this is a fact that our sense of taste is often guided by our sense of sight. This all happens because we grow up with certain expectations of how food should look. When a food’s color is off or is different than what we expect, our brain tells us that it tastes different too. Remember, if you catches Covid infection, it may reduce capacity to taste or smell the foods but your expectations will remain the same.

When taste buds come in contact with food, they send signals to our brain to interpret flavor. Although, we look at our food before eating, so our eyes send signals to our brain well before our taste buds get the chance. This can predetermine how we will perceive the taste of what we’re about to eat.
